"The Mackinac Bridge, Michigan, and Migration"
Journey Stories brings together the histories of transportation and migration across the United States, showing how changes in transportation have changed patterns of migration but also how the desire to move has fuelled developments in transportation technology. In this talk, Anna Pegler-Gordon will link these journey stories to the history of migration in Michigan and to the Mackinac Bridge. What were the demands that led to the building of the bridge? How did these demands shape the decisions about the bridge? And what have been the impacts of the Mackinac crossing for Michiganders? Following the talk, we plan to have a lively informal discussion linking these histories to our personal experiences and journey stories.
