X-WR-CALDESC:Lila MacKinnon was born and raised around the three lakes to a
pair of biologists who took every opportunity to take their kids out into
the Upper Peninsula wilderness. She grew up surrounded by artists\, from
puppeteers to ceramists\, and a strong community supporting their interest
s in the arts. She attended Manistique High School where she had the oppor
tunity to build a portfolio with the help of a scholarship from the Ericks
on Center and the focused help of her high school art teacher\, Mrs. Hinks
on. Accepted into the Stamps School of Art and Design at the University of
Michigan in the fall of 2019\, she completed her bachelor of fine arts in
May of 2023. Her interests in science and aesthetics has led to her creat
ing a large body of scientific illustrations as well as more simplistic co
mic inspired illustrations.\n\nWe are proud to present Lila's exhibit\, 'T
hesis Statement of a Small Town Artist' now through February in the Waterf
 ront Gallery.
