X-WR-CALDESC:\nEmily and Kristin Beckman began their music studies at ages 
 nine and seven\, respectively. Their first instructor was veteran piano te
 acher Ginnette Hallead\, who had them playing duets almost as soon as they
  could competently read music. During their high school years\, piano stud
 ies continued under Dr. Helen Marlais of Grand Valley State University\, u
 nder whom they also began competing with both solo piano and one piano-fou
 r hands.Successes included (for solo piano) finishing as state finalists i
 n the 2009 MMTA Student Achievement Testing\, and obtaining 2nd place(Emil
 y) and 3rd place(Kristin) in the 2009 Grand Valley State University 20th/2
 1st Century Piano Competition. During this time\, they also completed five
  levels of private music theory instruction which included harmony\, compo
 sition\, and counterpoint. \n\nAs a piano duo\, they participated in the 2
 009 Chicago Duo Piano Festival Competition\, and their accomplishments inc
 lude finishing as national finalists in the 2010 MTNA Senior Piano Duet Di
 vision\, and receiving back-to-back honorable mentions in years 2010 and 2
 011 in the Bradshaw and Buono International Piano Competition (one piano-f
 our hands division). They also took part in the 2011 Liszt 200 Chicago Int
 ernational Duo Piano Competition. \n\nBeing primarily a pianist\, Emily Be
 ckman began playing the flute eight years ago as a 'for fun' instrument. T
 his blossomed into playing in youth symphonies and community orchestras\, 
 performing solos for different concerts at various local venues\, playing 
 both second and first flute in the pit orchestras for La Boheme and Hansel
  and Gretel\, and subbing on flute and piccolo in the Sault Symphony. Most
  recently\, Emily received first place in the American Protege Internation
 al Woodwind/Brass Competition\, and will be making her Carnegie Hall debut
  on April 5th\, with her sister Kristin as her accompanist. Her private st
 udies continue with Sharon Sparrow\, assistant principal flutist in the De
 troit Symphony Orchestra.\n\nEmily and Kristin are both registered Suzuki 
 teachers\, and run their own private studio. They both teach piano\, as we
 ll as flute(Emily) and cello(Kristin). They have performed in various venu
 es throughout the state of Michigan\, and have even hosted their own chamb
 er music concert series\, 'An Evening of Music.' Private piano studies con
 tinue with Mary Siciliano\, formerly of Oakland University.\n
